Kaltenborn’s departure is bad news for Wehrlein

Sauber team boss Monisha Kaltenborn has parted company with the team following 17 years with the Swiss squad, according to reports that first surfaced this morning.

Kaltenborn, who relinquished her shares in the company when Longbow Finance purchased the team in 2016, leaves her position as team principal and chief executive officer.

Her influence on the team of late is unquestionable and her departure signifies that Sauber is a team whose philosophies could be set for an overhaul.

Stunning C36 livery conceals potential problems on Sauber’s horizon

Launch week has commenced this morning, with Sauber tweeting the first photo of their 2017 challenger – the C36 – which sports a stunning new livery. Sauber celebrates 25 years in the sport this season, and their paint shop has crafted a suitably striking blue, white and gold livery to commemorate the milestone.

The colour scheme may well have proved an early hit with fans – even if some have dubbed it a Ligier – but it does potentially mask some looming issues on Sauber’s horizon, despite last years eleventh-hour investment.

Mid-Season Review: Sauber

For the cash-strapped Sauber outfit, 2015 simply had to mark an improvement on a dismal 2014 – the Swiss squad’s worst ever season in the sport, in which they failed to break into the lucrative top ten for the duration. A strong showing during pre-season testing translated into a strong opening round, which saw Sauber exceed all expectations with rookie Felipe Nasr and Sauber newbie Marcus Ericsson both scooping points finishes in what was a race of attrition. However, the team have since struggled to match their heroics Down-Under, with underwhelming results somewhat highlighting the team’s struggles to keep pace in the frantic development race.

Mark Smith: Sauber’s “Smart” Appointment

In the lead up to last weekend’s British Grand Prix, it was announced that Mark Smith would be joining Sauber as a Technical Director, as part of a technical reshuffle. While the team intends to maintain its ‘design-by-committee’ approach, Smith is the first Technical Director to be appointed by Sauber since James Key’s departure in 2012, and judging by how the team have struggled in the 2015 development race to date, a refinement to the technical team seems a smart move.

Sauber Unveil C34

This winter has been a case of evolution as oppose to revolution and as such, previous car launches over the past days have displayed the type of cars and liveries that we were anticipating. However, the launch of the C34 has seen Sauber adopt an all new livery, dictated by the Banco do Brazil sponsorship courtesy of Felipe Nasr – the results are an eye-popping blue and gold combination which certainly makes the C34 stand out from the crowd.
