Now that 2015 has begun, attentions have turned to the forthcoming Formula 1 season and in many ways, today has marked the start of the winter testing period. Force India have announced that their 2015 challenger will be unveiled on Wednesday 21st January, and while drivers’ testing timetables are far from being finalised, Susie Wolff has confirmed on Twitter, that she will appear on track in the FW37 when the paddock establishes camp in Barcelona.
“With 6 weeks until my first test in the @WilliamsRacing #FW37 its full focus on fitness & preparation,” – the tweet sent by Wolff this morning, which is being treated as conformation that she will be taking to the track in some capacity this winter.
Ultimately, this was to be expected. Her promotion to the rank of Reserve Driver should spell more opportunities for Wolff to gain vital experience this season, as she takes over the duties completed by Felipe Nasr in 2014. Nasr enjoyed three tests and five FP1 sessions in 2014 and it can be assumed that a similar opportunity will be presented to Susie this year.
With Simona de Silvestro’s hopes of obtaining a Sauber race seat being quelled by contractual issues, it is important that the sport has a leading lady to inspire the next generation of female racers to challenge the stereotype.
