As the misty gloom surrounding the driver market begins to lift, Nico Hulkenberg is the next to be locked into a 2015 drive, as Force India announce that he will remain at the team for another season. Following such a consistent campaign it is unsurprising that the team have made the move to keep hold of a driver that Team Principal Vijay Mallya, has described as “one of the best talents on the grid.” If consistency is key, then it is difficult to argue against Mallya in this regard.
For Nico, spending more than 12 months consecutively at a team is somewhat uncharted territory. The German has certainly experienced a plethora of midfield outfits, having spent stints at Williams and Sauber since his debut in 2010. However, at Force India, he seems to have found an environment which he is comfortable in and with the team riding the crest of a wave this season, it is an excellent springboard upon which Hulkenberg can showcase his array of talents. They may have suffered a hammer-blow in the race for fifth in the constructors in Russia, but prospects are positive for another drive to P5 in 2015, even if this season’s prize is now bridge too far.
“This is a team I know extremely well and we’ve enjoyed a great year together with some special results,” Hulkenberg said. “The team has big ambitions and I believe we can have a competitive package once again next year. We have a strong partner in Mercedes and everyone in the team is motivated and hungry for more success. I have a good feeling for 2015 and there is a lot to be excited about as we try to build on the results we have achieved this year.”
It seems as though this is a decision which suits both parties remarkably well. Force India have secured the talents of a hugely competent driver. When battling in the midfield, consistent points scoring is integral to success and after obtaining points in 13 of the 16 races so far in 2014, this is an attribute demonstrated in a clinical fashion by the German. Meanwhile, Force India is an excellent shop window for Nico and are the best team in the market for his services for 2015.
The question which now remains is whether Sergio Perez will continue at the Silvertsone based squad for a second season…
